When it’s a glorious 24 degrees (or more) outside, it seems of little importance to consider the dual heating and cooling benefits of a Mitubishi heat pump. However, as we know all too well, the colder weather has a sneaky way of creeping back in unannounced and before we know it, the thermostat is hitting 4 degrees and under and we’re looking for that cosy warmth to see us through the winter months.

Dual Solutions

It is of little surprise then that New Zealanders the country over chose a heat pump for their home and office heating and cooling solutions. When you live in a country like New Zealand that is often described as having four seasons in one day, it’s hugely important that the heating solution you choose for your home is equally effective at cooling in summer.

For climate control in your home or office heat pumps are the safest, convenient and most efficient option around. In summer a heat pump keeps the home cool and dry, in winter it gives you a warm, cosy and healthy environment, the perfect solution to a cold blustery day outside.

Multi-Split System Heat Pumps

Functions that enhance our way of life

Because heating and cooling of our homes are standard requirements for today’s living, heat pump suppliers like Mistubishi have factored in the essential nature of heating and cooling by looking at the design and functionality of their heat pumps.

To make our lives easier and to reflect the way in which we live our modern day lives, Mitsubishi have added features to many of their heat pumps which allow you to set the options when the heat pump starts and also allow for remote access via a smartphone app.

The following features are essential in any heat pump:

  • Automatic de-icing:  vital if you live in a cold area – otherwise, in winter, the pump will stop providing heat because of frost build-up on the outdoor heat-exchanger coils
  • Timers:  The 7 day timer is a great function and allows you to set the timer to switch the heat pump on for an hour or so in the morning and then have it come on again so the house is warm and cosy when you arrive home from work
  • WiFi enabled:  These heat pumps let you switch the unit on and off, change modes and set the temperature and the timer on the unit – all using an app downloaded to your smartphone. This feature is possibly the biggest achievement to date, towards making a heat pump work in our everyday lives. Enabling us to remote access our home heat pump while we’re away from home or on holiday and set it to dehumidify for an hour or so will ensure our home is always kept dry and fresh

Rate me

When selecting a heat pump for your home there a number of criteria to base your decision on that include additional features, but perhaps even more important than that are the energy star ratings. These ratings tell you how efficient a heat pump is and the more-efficient models in the market get more stars and are cheaper to run.

Revised labels have also been phased in: instead of the old combined heating/cooling label, there’s one that shows cooling and heating side-by-side (during the phase-in period the old rating can still be listed in a panel at the bottom of the revised label.)
